emily’s bedroom remix

Back in August, 2010 I wrote a post about repainting Emily’s bedroom and her big move out of a crib called “armed with a paintbrush”.

After years of thumbing through Pottery Barn Kids catalogs & saving pictures to Pinterest Emily’s bedroom has evolved into something I had always imagined. The girls bedrooms in those catalogs are so fresh and fun….I wanted that for her bedroom too.

Designing a bedroom {any room for that matter} takes time and patience. I knew I wanted some white pieces of furniture & I knew I loved painted furniture but I didn’t love the price of PBK furniture and I definitely didn’t know how to paint furniture that well.

One day I stumbled upon an beautiful white cape cod style headboard at “The Barn”. Into her room it came and we bid farewell to the wooden headboard that was from her transition crib. Let the remix begin…..

First a little room rearranging was in order.

Confession: I may or may not have a room rearranging obsession that started at a very young age.

Out went Emily’s closet doors, because I knew it would be hard for her to get into them and second, because it’s WAY cuter with hanging curtains anyway.

Out went a not-so sturdy wooden bookshelf, and in came an amazing hand painted shelf that one of my good friends found on Craigslist. It might just be one of my favorite pieces of furniture in our entire house.

In came a couple cans of white spray paint from Walmart to transform her wooden dresser, along with new ceramic pink knobs.

A wicker chair from the front porch because a trash picked white wooden rocker needed a home, a vintage coat rack, a night table from The Christmas Tree Shoppe {yes I bought the display since it was the last one}, a very cute Pooh collection, a few banners from my Etsy shop, some favorite books, a letter “E” I picked up at Clover Market and a few other fun things make this room come together.

And since you saved money using hand me downs when you can ….buying furniture from antique barns, goodwill stores, yard sales and craigslist…..you may just have some money left to splurge on a scrumptious Pottery Barn Kids quilt.

It’s no secret that I love decorating and adding my own special touch to each and every corner of our home. I think it’s those little things that make a difference. It’s those little things that our children will remember when they are older and reflecting back on their childhood.

And when you have a special needs child that will be dependent on you their entire life…. this is their HaPpY. Make it count!

So here it is, Emily’s bedroom. Remix.
