Hello there and welcome to my Quilt as you Go Tutorial - Bee in Love.
“bee in love with your quilt and a very wise lady taught me to “bee the boss of your own quilt.”
I wanted a way to give each and every block it’s own quilting time. As part of the Bonnie & Camille sampler quilting bee…..each month for the next 6-12 months, a group of quilters will send out two blocks to ladies within our beehive. #iheartbandcsamplerbeehive4 The blocks are being sent from different parts of the World, some from the US and some from Australia. Made with love from the Bonnie & Camille fabrics we all adore.
Follow along as I share my own techniques for quilting as you go. There is no right or wrong way. You are the boss of your own quilt and can make adjustments for whatever works best for you and your project.
Expect lots of pictures! Seeing things for your own eyes sometimes helps directions make more sense.
My #iheartbandcsamplerbeehive4 blocks:
- Block 1 - Samantha Olsen
- Block 2 - Samantha Dorn
Let’s quilt your blocks:
- Step 1: As each block arrives…..cut a piece of batting a smidge larger than your quilt block. Baste. Then start quilting.
- Step 2: After quilting your block, trim the extra batting from the outside edges.
- Admire your work. Eat candy. Show it off on IG so we can all have a peek!
Attaching your blocks together:
- Step 1: Lay your blocks right sides together.
- Step 2: After you lay the blocks right sides together, pin them.
- Step 3: Sew together with 1/4″ seam. I use a walking foot for this part..
- Step 4: After attaching together, press your seam open. Less bunchiness that way.
- Step 5: Your back seam is pressed open, now press the top. Make it nice & pretty! Isn’t this exciting?
- Step 6: Now you can take a break until your next block arrives in the mail…..look what you did!
FAQ’s: This is not a planned tutorial….I didn’t write notes & think about it for months….and may not even know what the final result will be. I usually fly by the seat of my pants Julia Child style and hope for the best. {i hope you are laughing}.
I will show you over the course of a few months my plans for putting together my Bonnie & Camille Sampler Quilting Bee Quilt. #iheartbandcsamplerbeehive4
